Sergey Kristapovich was born in Minsk in 1956. He graduated from the Minsk Art School, the Belarusian Theatre and Art Institute and completed a full post graduated course at the Department of Art History and Theory of the Belarusian Art Academy. In 1989-1995 he worked as a teacher at the Department of Monumental and Decorative Art of the above Academy. Since 1984, Sergey Kristapovich has been taking part in foreign and domestic exhibitions. He has been a member of the Belarusian Union of Artist since 1987. In 1989 the artist was awarded a bronze medal of the USSR Art Academy for a monumental painting in Nikolay Chepik Museum. The artist's works are kept at the Belarusian State Art Museum (Minsk), Modern Art Museum (Minsk) Museum of the Belarusian Culture Centre (South River, New Jersey, USA), David Harrington Gallery (London, United Kingdom), National Museum (Wroclav, Poland) as well as by private collections in the USA, England, the Czech Republic, Norway, Israel, Japan, Germany, Poland, Italy.

Writes of him the art critic Alla Narovskaya: "While the previous phase of Sergey Kristapovich's creative activity was marked by search and striving to reshape the traditional Byzantine and Russian icon painting, in his today's art works he seeks to make the palette, light and intensity of colour serve not for producing real objects of a figurative world but, first of all, for transforming them into signs, symbols or a set of "non-object objects" that are created inside the picture of a mythical world. The artist objective is to evoke the subconscious, the archetypical, to find such ways of influence on the spectator which will help him to take part in a mutually created mythical space.
